We honor with deep sorrow the memory of Claudette Soto, a visionary leader and tireless advocate who dedicated over two decades to transforming the construction industry through equity and empowerment of communities and businesses.
In Memory of Claudette Soto
As President and CEO of baso, Ltd., Claudette not only led projects with excellence delivering them on time and within budget but also broke barriers for meaningful minority and women-owned business participation. She was also the President of Chicago Unidos in Construction, where she championed collaboration and opportunities for diverse contractors and professionals in the industry. Her legacy includes founding baso Tecnica, the only Latina-owned architectural and structural forensics firm in the Chicagoland area.
From early on, Claudette demonstrated a strong commitment to education and community. In 2001, while studying at IIT, she founded VAMOS, an organization introducing underserved students to STEAM fields and guiding them on their academic and professional journeys.
Her passion and leadership were recognized locally and nationally, serving on key city commissions, sharing her voice through TEDx talks, and inspiring many through her tireless work and advocacy.
Claudette Soto leaves behind an indelible legacy of courage, determination, and love for her community. Her life stands as a powerful testament to the change possible when every voice and talent is heard and valued.
